Le Dîner en Blanc
If we were having coffee, I would tell you I’ve put a Dîner en Blanc at the top of my bucket list, alas, without hope of getting to one this year. The dinners, which start with a secret location, were launched with a handful of friends in Paris nearly 30 years ago. Now they’re all over the world. That’s the Ontario town of Niagara-on-the-Lake above, and Toronto last year, below. I’m fascinated by how these events happen.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I am what this cycle-friendly region calls a “joy rider,” not ready for the hills of the escarpment (road riders), or set up for long distance routes (tour riders). But 120 kilometres of our pathways are just my speed, and I cycle for the bliss of it each day (see bike-travel video below).
SCENES ALONG MY BIKEWAYS
If you were here, I would invite you to fly along a bikeway with me. We would see:
- Marshes, full of trilling birds – egrets, great blue herons, sleek, low-flying cormorants, and majestic swans.
My grandmother’s hand must be guiding me as I move the mahjong tiles. Winds, dragons, craks slide over a felted tabletop like the one I sat beside in childhood while the good friends played. Continue reading “Discover Challenge: Mahjong”

If we were having coffee, I would tell you life is just now creeping into full bloom in this area of Georgian Bay, held back by the cool of the lake and chill north winds. It’s the Victoria Day long weekend in Canada (where we inexplicably still celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday, the 24th of May), the official kickoff of summer.
Rainbow Pasta Salad
This is a weekend we always make our go-to fresh pasta salad. So I would pass along this recipe. Great for pot lucks, always a hit with visitors. Enjoy. Continue reading “#WeekendCoffeeShare: 5/21/16”
